The Short Story
I was born a poor, black child in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 14 March, 1966. With racial tensions still simmering following the 1964 race riots, my dad moved us to Singapore within three months of my birth. I was educated in Singapore until I was thirteen, then I went to The Lawrenceville School, a private boarding, prep school in New Jersey. I received my B.S. in Information Decision Systems from Carnegie Mellon. My college career was interrupted by a return to Singapore to serve my two and half year mandatory, military National Service, in which I was commissioned as an Infantry Combat Officer.
